Buying a jersey of your favorite player or team is for sure one of the happiest moments of a soccer fan’s life. There is nothing more than the joy brought by a new sports attire. But what good would it be if you would not care for the custom soccer uniforms that you got made with so much love? Taking care of your clothing the right way is very important.
Given that you would hate to see your sweatshirts fade away, worn out quickly or in a worst-case scenario, come apart. We have a complete guide to take care of your uniform in such a way that it lasts for the longest time.
Follow the Washing Instructions by the Manufacturer
Every piece of clothing comes with a guide that contains the washing instructions. You must follow it, as the manufacturer is familiar with the way to take care of it. Since the company knows which material or fabric the attire is made out of, and how they should be treated and washed, they can direct you appropriately. This will help you avoid the products and procedures that are harmful to the fabric and in turn make it last longer.
Turn it Inside Out when Washing
In order to preserve the color, printing and embroidery on the jersey, turn it inside out before you put it in the washer. You do not have to be worried about getting it thoroughly cleaned. Your clothes will be just as fresh as if you washed them normally. Doing it this way helps to keep the exterior of the cloth intact.
Wash with Cold Water Only
You should only use cold water while washing your custom soccer jerseys. As hot or warm water accelerate the process of fading. It would also damage the thread making your jersey look worn out quickly. At times, the fabric used can also shrink when exposed to hot water. This would make your sweatshirt go smaller in size or get an uneven fit, which would be heartbreaking.
Hand Wash Vs Machine Wash
You can either hand wash your sports attire or opt for the delicate setting if you want to machine wash. Whichever method you go for, make sure to use cold water only. This ensures its longevity and quality.
Don’t Use Bleach or Fabric Softeners – Be Aware of Stain Fighters
Bleach, especially if it is chlorine bleach, would be very harsh on the fabric. So try not to use it on your clothes. This would aid in the wear-down process and before you know it your sports uniform would not be good to wear. Fabric softeners, however, are not hard on the thread but they will leave some bad, long-lasting effects on your jersey.
Even with stain fighters try and be careful. Although some of these do not fade away the cloth but still try to use it on a small, less obvious area before you go for the entire shirt.
Do not put it in The Dryer
Avoid the dryer at all costs! This will wreak havoc on your favorite shirt and even cause it to shrink. Try and air-dry your clothes by putting them out on a rack or a hanger. Flat drying would save it from a lot of harsh conditions and thus add to its longevity.
Never Let Freshly Stained Uniform Get Dry
In order to prevent your uniform from getting stuck with those hard stains, try to not let them dry out. While the stain is still fresh, wash it out with plain water and then turn the shirt inside out and lather it with detergent. It is best practice to let the detergent sit directly on the stain for a little while before you wash.
Another thing that you can do is dissolve some detergent in the water and let your shirt sit in it for about fifteen minutes. This will get the stain right out without damaging the fabric.
Pre-soak All the Way
Before giving your uniform a thorough wash, try and soak it for a while. Mix your laundry detergent with just a little bit of baking soda and add it to some water. Rub your jersey in it and let it soak. After a while wash it lightly and rinse.
Pre-soaking your jersey would help you get the stains and any dirt out in a jiffy without having to be harsh on the fabric. This preserves your clothes in the best way possible.
Always Wash Separately!
It’s always best to wash your custom soccer jerseys separately from all other clothes. Do not make the mistake of putting in the top and the shorts with socks and everything else. This is because all of the clothing items are made of different fabrics and use various dyes. These can leave color in the water that might get soaked up by your uniform, leading to permanent stains on it.
